Understanding the 2026-2027 Child Care Subsidy Changes in NSW
Starting from early 2026 and continuing into the July 2026 indexation period, several significant changes are coming to the Child Care Subsidy (CCS). These updates focus on making high-quality early learning more accessible for local families through increased hourly caps and a new minimum hours guarantee.
The New “3-Day Guarantee”
From 5 January 2026, the Australian Government is introducing a major shift in how subsidised hours are calculated. Known as the “3-Day Guarantee,” this change ensures all eligible families can access at least 72 hours of subsidised care per fortnight, regardless of their activity levels.
- More Flexibility: Families doing up to 48 hours of recognised participation per fortnight now automatically qualify for 72 hours of subsidy.
- Maximum Support: Families exceeding 48 hours of participation, or those with valid exemptions, will remain eligible for 100 hours of subsidised care per fortnight.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families: All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children continue to be eligible for 100 hours of subsidised care per fortnight.
Hourly Rate Caps for 2026-2027
Effective from 6 July 2026, the government will increase the hourly rate caps as part of the annual indexation. This adjustment helps the subsidy keep pace with the rising costs of living and service provision across NSW.
